how to make nuts and bolts

I associate this recipe with Cheistmas. I can't remember why I do, but it makes sense. This time of year is completely nuts!

Things are bonkers in the farm. Bearhands planted new grass yesterday and summer arrived a few days early to desiccate the poor planting. New plant stock is high maintenance and Bearhands is looking after it with the same care and attention he gave our own newborn babies.
Which is to say he's watering it a couple times a day and not laying awake at night worrying about its wellbeing.

Nuts and Bolts is a cracker accompaniment to a few Christmas drinks. I make mine with nutra grain because I love the savory/sweet contrast but you can substitute other cereal or even rice crackers in its place.

    Ingredients:

    115g butter
    2 tbs olive oil
    1 teaspoon curry powder
    pinch cayenne pepper
    2 tbs Worcestershire sauce
    1 tbs paprika
    1 clove garlic
    200g pretzels
    250g mixed nuts
200g cereal (nutra grain, crispex or similar)

    Method:

In a small saucepan melt the butter then add the oil, curry, cayenne, Worcestershire sauce, paprika and garlic.  Stir to combine, then remove from heat.
Combine the dry ingredients in the bottom of a baking dish. Stir to distribute evenly.
Drizzle the spice liquid over the dry ingredients. Toss until the dry ingredients are covered.
Bake in a low oven (150C) for 30 - 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Allow to cool before storing in a airtight container.how to make nuts and bolts for Christmas

This is so easy! I'm off grains at the moment, so going to make this with nuts only. I'm sure it will be delicious!!

What a blast from the past! My mum used to make nuts and bolts for pre-dinner drinks when guests were coming. The height of sophistication in Perth in the mid-70s. I was thinking of them the other day - glad the recipe has now popped into my life!
