We're heading off on our annual September camping trip this weekend.
I love the enforced slowness of camping. No rushing, time to sit, time to chat, time to experiment with new recipes. Of course the only way to get this time is to rush around like a mad woman meal planning and packing in the days previous, but that's a story for another day....
To assist with meal planning I've put together
ten recipes worth trying on your next camping trip
crockpot brownies
Cooking individual brownies in recycled soft-drink tins is a fun camping dessert with no washing up!
dublin coddle
There's something special about cooking in a camp oven - the fire add so much flavour. This recipe from Saving Room For Dessert is a perfect camp oven dinner.
damper on a stick
Damper on a stick dripping with golden syrup is the stuff childhood memories are made of! Use the traditional or my busy-mum recipe - you can get both here.
camping hot dogs on a stick
In my experience, kids love anything that comes on a stick, and these camping hot dogs on a stick from Frugal Coupon Living are no exception!
tacos in a bag
Tacos in a bag are always a hit with the kids when we're camping. I have found that the bag can tear though, so now I take noodle boxes and make taco in a box instead! Get all the details, including a great way that the kids can make their own at Happy Money Saver.
carrot and cacao BBQ cake
Kylie from Kidgredients knows that cake cravings can strike at any time - even when camping. Lucky for us she's created a genius method for baking a cake on the BBQ!
orange muffins on the fire
HEre's another genius baking-while-camping trick - baking muffins in orange skins! Check out this video from the Tamara Twist - I love her blender!
baked salmon in foil
I love finding new ways to introduce variety into our camping menu. (The fellows don't seem to mind, but a girl can have too much barbeque!) This recipe for slasa verde baked salmon from Whole Food Bellies looks like a terrific dinner. Added tip for Australians: Aldi sell individually cryovac-ed salmon pieces - purpose made for camping!
s'mores in a cone
I love this variation on the traditional camping dessert, because it's easier for little hands to hold (and results in less sticky-fingers!)
a prayer for camping mums
(because we need all the help we can get!)
what's your favourite camping recipe?
Em says
Have an absolute ball camping! I'm sure it will be very peaceful when it's not incredibly hectic and busy! xx

The kids didn't say "I'm bored" once Em - it was a September holiday miracle! 🙂

Oh Wow! These ideas can really make camping memorable! I am going to try the BBQ cake and hot dogs first! Well, none of these could be missed out 🙂
