Wheel of Brisbane

This week we travelled to the Southbank Parklands in Brisbane to have lunch with some friends.

For those of you unfamiliar with Brisbane, Southbank is constructed on the Expo 88 site.  It’s now a sprawling area of parks, bars, restaurants and even a beach.  A lot of the park was damaged during last year’s floods, but it’s now back to its beautiful best.

It’s also the home of the Wheel of Brisbane – the city’s answer to the London Eye.  It stands out as a landmark and we’ve often discussed it with Miss Three as we drove past.

To be honest I’ve never entertained riding it, but….. I owe Miss Three a ride on a ferris wheel for ten ‘dry’ sleeps.  I admit it, I bribe my kids! In fact, I use so many threats and inducements with the girls that I will be well prepped for a career in politics once my Stay At Home Mum days are over.

So I visited the Wheel of Brisbane website.  I had anticipated it would be well beyond what this frugal Mummy was prepared to part with, but I was pleasantly surprised – Miss Three, the Little Sister and I all rode for $17.Cooker and a Looker

It wasn’t busy, we walked straight up, bought our tickets and got on.  An attendant helped us on, and explained the air conditioning and volume controls for the guided commentary.  We did three laps, I think it took us about 12 minutes and it was wonderful.

All the preconceived notions I had about price and value for money we wrong!  It’s a great outlook on the city and I’ll recommend it from now on.

Do you have kids?  What’s the biggest carrot you’ve ever dangled?
