three things I love in the kitchen (that you will too!)

If we were catching up over a wine while sitting around the campfire, I’d have told you about these things already. Such is the excitement in my life, I can’t help but share new supermarket discoveries with friends (even the ones whom, I imagine, have much more interesting stories to tell).

Seeing as though its Monday again and it doesn’t seem we’ll be chatting fire-side anytime soon, pull your imaginary chair a bit closer t0 my fictional fire. There’s three things I’m loving at the moment that I’ve been meaning to tell you about……

things I love in the kitchen (the August 2016 edition)

1 lurpack garlic butter1. Lurpak Garlic Butter

All the Lurpak deliciousness with garlic thrown in for good measure. This is certainly a convenience purchase. Sure, you can make your own garlic butter, and yes it’s likely cheaper, but I always have a little pat of this in the fridge. Spreading this on a piece of toast to dip into soup makes lunch a little bit fancy (in next to no time)!

2 megachef premium oyster sauce2. Megachef Premium Oyster Sauce

What if I told you that some oyster sauce was made with *actual* oysters? It’s true and once you’ve had to good stuff you won’t be able to go back. Megachef make their oyster sauce the traditional way – with smoked oysters. No MSG, no colour, no artificial flavours, plus it’s gluten free. I buy this oyster sauce in 600g bottles from an Asian Grocer on the coast. It takes midweek stir fries from average to out-of-this-world!

3. cluckar app3. CluckAR App

Choice launched their CluckAR app in April this year. Scan the top of any egg carton in the supermarket and it will tell you the conditions in which the eggs were laid. I like to get what I pay for and when I started using the app, I was stunned to find that the free-range eggs I was buying weren’t living the open-spaces lives I’d imagined. I’d been paying extra for good marketing, not good welfare. The app is free and available for apple and android device.  Choice get extra points for their cheeky wording – they’re encouraging shoppers to give a cluck.

Your turn: pass the imaginary bottle and tell me ‘what do you love in your kitchen?’

I love that app too but it’s even better when we get eggs from my sister. Not kitchen related but there’s an app called good on you that lets you know about sustainable fashion retailers. How good is it when technology keeps us informed like this?
