Mageirocophobia – cooking consternation

I learned a new word this week – mageirocophobia.  Mageirocophobia is the fear of cooking or having to cook.

I’ve had my share of scary kitchen episodes in my time – three terrifying moments spring immediately to mind – the first time I cooked for my in-laws, preparing my entry for the Royal Queensland Show, and baking a pseudo-wedding cake for an anniversary party/surprise vow-renewal.  And now I’ll be adding another mageirocophobic event to the list – cooking in public!

Some of you may remember that I took part in the Gourmet Garden Blog Off earlier this year.  A number of bloggers cooked with Gourmet Garden products and wrote about it.  At the end of the week, Gourmet Garden chose some bloggers to cook off at Good Food and Wine Festivals in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

I wasn’t one of them.

Until this week.  Yep, on Tuesday this week I got the very exciting (for me) news that one of the chosen bloggers can’t make it and (because they assure me I was a very close runner-up) I’m in!

I’ll be cooking on the Chopping Block stage at the Brisbane Good Food and Wine Festival on Saturday 10 November at 2pm.  Skye Craig – dessert queen from Masterchef season 2 – will be judging the winner of the cook off.  The victorious contestant will earn a spot on a four-day conference on the Sunshine Coast and the opportunity to produce a video featuring her recipe.

The cook tops are induction so there’s only a small chance that I’ll set myself on fire.  But giving myself third-degree burns is still definitely on the cards – so come and watch me add public injury to my mageirocophobic repertoire!

Thanks Beth. I’ll keep you posted! The Steve Irwin Gala Dinner is the same night – so I’ll be celebrating regardless of the outcome! x

Thanks Emma. I’ve got my thinking cap on now, trying to decide what to cook!

Wow Amanda you clever girl, congratulations and good luck. Would love to come along and be your support crew but we’ve got a lunch time wedding that day. Hopefully if we have finished before 2pm we will be there.
