bloggers read mean comments

The thing about life is you’ll never please everyone and the thing about writing on the internet is that people won’t hesitate to inform you of their displeasure.

A few weeks ago I asked Australian bloggers to record themselves reading mean comments written about them.  These are their responses.

bloggers read mean comments

are you a blogger? what’s the meanest comment you’ve received?

ever known anyone to feel that passionately about scones?

OMG these are gold! Great job putting it all together & props to those awesome bloggers who put themselves out there to bear the brunt of attacks like those!
Also, as one of the old bags who hang around your site – I can tell that person who commented I make a mean damn pumpkin scone – SO THERE! LMFAO!! xx

That comment made me laugh so hard. Imagine being so fired up about scones! Its as good as the time someone left a vague threat about my kids after I wrote a post about faulty toasters!

Wow. People really are quite awful at times aren’t they? Glad it hasn’t turned any of those awesome bloggers off sharing. And you are looking very gorgeous BTW.

Nice work Amanda. Can I tell you how much I hate seeing myself on video. I should have edited, photoshopped, got a voice over, or something….

But you know, I don’t care anyway.

Just shared this on my profile and page. BRILLIANT, AND some of my favourite people in there.

Clairey: PMSL re the backhander on typos!!

(Makes me a little sad I couldn’t contribute- no one’s ever cared enough to waste their time on being harsh to me… After all isn’t that what blogging’s about? Me, me, me?)

    Love this!

I get some great comments on Kidspot. This one was following a post where I shared images of women ‘extreme breastfeeding’ i.e. breastfeeding in usual positions or while exercising etc (remember yoga mum?)

    I got this comment:

Once again an article from “Miss” Wylie about her favorite subjects, sex and children. Has the staff at kidspot checked Miss Wylie for issues of pedophilia? There is not a single article written by her that hasnt got something to do with sex. Some of these photographs…… there is a line. Whats next? Mothers taking “family” shots of showing the daughter how to insert a tampon? Mother showing a boy how to masterbate? You notice how mothers sexual fantasies and reality seemed to be getting mixed up? Missionary position breast feeding a child? Is it necessary to be naked when a child is sucking on your nipple? It’s obvious that the women who have replied get a sexual satisfaction from breast feeding. The same women who are always caught felating a two year old or something to that degree, these women have serious issues. Its supposed to be about feeding a child, now these mentally unstable women have made it about their breasts and a chance to get sexual gratification and attention. Miss Wylie, your pornography (and probable casual drug) addiction has gotten so bad it’s seeping into your writing. You cant be a sexual diva while talking about children, you have too chose, you either want to be a (well fed) sexual diva hip modern woman who is man eater gang banger awesome you cant touch this like person… or you can be a respectful advice writer giving advice about something that should be as far away from the topic of graphic sex as possible, raising a healthy intelligent child. You cant mix the both and be the (well fed) sexual diva that deals with children, your articles reflect this and its coming off very peadophilic.

That, my dear, may be the best mean comment ever written! Drug use, sexual references, a fat jibe – not a slur went unturned. Nice one! 🙂

I’m with Kim-Marie – I’ve never had a troll, not once. I can’t believe how awful people can be (or how unintentionally funny). They are also completely off their heads if they think you can’t make a decent punky scone. Eye roll. x

Oh my goodness. It’s so bad, it’s good. Clearly, I am not interesting enough to be bad mouthed on my blog, but there’s still time! I’m equally horrified by the lack of good taste ( how dare you diss some of Australia’s best bloggers?) and lack of good manners (didn’t your mum tell you, that if you can’t say anything nice, then keep your gob shut!) and equally gleeful at hearing real life voices of some of Australia’s best bloggers. More video posts please! And pumpkin scones for all!

Some of these are funny, some not so much. I wrote a post once for RU OK about the battle I’d had with depression following my marriage breakup and the subsequent affect it had on my children. Most of the comments were supportive but this one was left anonymously –

“Do you think posts like this are helpful?

This seems very self indulgent given that your children may read it.

Any way, just my opinion and i’m not interested in a reply. This was just to make you think. “every action has an equal and opposite reaction”.

I hope you get your life sorted out but maybe you should connect more with the real world instead of creating a virtual world as a distraction from reality.”

I found it incredibly hurtful especially at a time when I was blaming myself for not being able to cope and be the mother I wanted to be and I removed the post immediately and seriously considered giving up blogging. I didn’t but 3 years on this still hurts!

There are some loony people out there. Wait… I already know that. A career in mental health means nothing shocks me these days. But the scones comment was pretty funny.

Haha. There seems to be something magical about taking your power back by reading the comments out – I have always been a fan of Jimmy Kimmel’s celebrities reading mean tweets so this was great fun to watch!
People are a bit sad, aren’t they? Geez.
I’m lucky that I have never had horrible comments, but the moment I do, I’ll know I’ve made it 😉
